WoW: Insomniacs Alliance 2011 Olympics!

Wondering what to expect from the 2011 Insomniacs Olympics?

Look no further! The 2011 IAO (Ee-ay, ee-ay, oh) is the first event of its kind in our fair Darrowmere guild's hysterical history. It's a chance to win prizes, get to know your fellow guild members, increase our server presence, have a hell of a laugh and deliberately make a total arse of yourself all at once. How's that for multitasking!

Doubtless though, you're here because you want to know what it is, and what the rules are. (Maybe not the second part then. But I'm still going to tell you, so shaddap and read.)


The Points System

The olympics consist of three contests: SPLAT!, Death Race, and Asylum Seeker. Each have a few rules, but all of them follow the same structure:

The winner of each event gains 5 points;
The 1st runner up of each event gains 3 points;
The 2nd runner up of each event gains 1 point.

The Prizes

After all the events have been completed and the points tallied, the guildmember with the most points will be declared the winner. The winner will recieve a grand prize, the 2 runners up will win other prizes:

Grand Prize: 500 Gold (1000 if enough entrants join up)
2nd Prize: 2 Gems of your choice, crafted courtesy of Draemock
3rd Prize: 1 Gem of your choice, crafted courtesy of Draemock

The Rules

Every event follows the following rules, but may also incur special rules of their own:

Referees are Johnpisces, Draemock and Xedanis. What they say goes. Also, referees are not allowed to participate in the competition or influence its outcome in any way. This includes giving hints or support of any kind to contestants. So don't ask!

No fast travel skills, items, spells or mounts of any kind are allowed in SPLAT or Death Race. However these abilities are allowed in Asylum Seeker. Anyone who is caught using any such ability or item will be immediately disqualified from the olympics.

NO CHEATING! Anyone caught cheating, bribing or attempting to win by unfair means will be immediately disqualified from the olympics.

In SPLAT, no skill, ability or item which allows you to steer in midair or alter your trajectory in any way is allowed. Anyone caught attempting to take such action will be immediately disqualified from the olympics.

Asylum Seeker and Death Race require entrants to use a naked (gearless) lvl 1 alt which they will create at the time of the event. Anyone using any other character, or any enhancing items such as heirlooms, will be asked to remove such items from their inventory or will be disqualified.

The Events!

Event #1: SPLAT!

Requirements: Just your character. This event involves leaping off a tall object to your doom; make sure you unequip your gear first.

Splat is self explanatory. Xedanis will fling himself off a pre-determined tall object to his death. Each entrant will take it in turns to do likewise. The aim of the game is simple: Land (And die) as close to Xedanis as you can.

Additional rules: No health-boosting items, skills, spells or other such objects are allowed. Players must make their jump attempt naked (no gear equipped). Players must fall to their death for their jump to count.

Event #2: Naked Death Race.

Requirements: For this event, every entrant must create a lvl 1 human character (gender and class is not important.) Once all entrants are ready, transport will be arranged to the Burning Steppes, the location of the event.

In naked death race, players will compete to reach the Chiselgrip flight master in the fastest possible time. An example of a route is outlined below:



The first person to run up the short hill in front of the Flight Master and present themselves to John and Draemock will be the winner. The race will be started by Xedanis, near the archway that leads to the Steppes from Redridge mountains. The aim of the game is to get there as quick as possible; that doesn't necessarily mean the safest! (Remember the route above is only a suggestion.)

Additional Rules: Mounts of any kind, as well as teleportation skills, sprints, speed buffs, and attempting to run the race whilst in ghost form (in whole or in part) are disallowed.

Resurrecting at the Spirit Guide is not allowed. You must corpse-run back to your body to complete the race.

Using the Morgan's Vigil - Chiselgrip flight point is not allowed.

Health-boosting, Stat-boosting, damage reduction or any other "buff" Items, skills, spells etc are not allowed.

Event #3: Asylum Seeker.

Requirements: Again, players must use their naked (gearless) Lvl 1 alt for this contest. A little gold may also be useful.

In Asylum seeker, Players will begin by meeting Xedanis inside the Stormwind Dwarven district Bank. Xedanis will give entrants a specific item to acquire. Entrants go off and acquire this item by whatever means they can, then return to Xedanis and present him the item: open a trade window and place the item in the window as if trading it to him. The trade will not be completed. Xedanis will provide a clue and send them to Draemock.

Draemock, at the Trade District Auction House, will challenge entrants to acquire another item. Upon presentation of this item, Draemock will provide another clue.

Using these two clues, entrants must find John and recite the entire 2-part clue to him, as well as handing over both items they were sent to find. If their clue is correct, the player will have completed the event. The first person to do so is the winner, with the next 2 successful finishers gaining 2nd and 3rd place.

Additional rules: This event must be completed entirely using your lvl 1 alt. Switching to mains or any characters with mounts or speed-enhancing abilities etc is not allowed.

Lvl 1 alts will not be made part of the guild, to prevent people from cheating by locating john via a blip on the world map.

If you accidentally locate John whilst searching for your other quest parts, you must not give his location away to other players. Anyone who confronts john without giving the completed clue and both required items will be disqualified.
